Return to Classes

Year 2

Welcome to Year 2

Welcome to class 2! Our teacher is Miss Andrews who has been teaching at Broom Barns since 2020 and loves making our lessons as original as possible.  Her favourite things are enjoying being a mum to her daughter, coffee and the summer months, she doesn’t like spiders and cold weather.

Working alongside Miss Andrews are Mrs Butacu, Mrs Hayhurst, Mrs Hindle, Miss Child and Mrs Georgiou.  They enjoy working in Year 2 as the children make you smile in many ways and they get excited over little things.  Smiles are contagious, positive and infectious.  They all enjoy building a good rapport with the children, helping them to feel secure, happy whilst encouraging learning, communication and social development.

Curriculum

We have an exciting year planned for Year 2 children. Our topics this year include; The Great Fire of London, narratives, poetry, living things and their habitats, continents and oceans, ceremonies and expressive paintings.

Year 2 have P.E. every Tuesday and Wednesday.  Children will need suitable swimming kit and P.E. kit for both indoors and outsideLong hair should be tied back and earrings removed.

Every morning starts with EMW (early morning work). EMW is incredibly important because it helps you to revise key concepts from your learning and gives you the chance to practise your arithmetic, reading and writing skills every day.  This is why arriving to school on time is so important. It equals 225 minutes a week of revision and feedback time which we have found to really help children make accelerated progress.

Trips etc

In Year 2 we plan local trips in response to our class topics and the children’s interests. Past trips have included Mountfitchet Castle, Ruislip Lido, Whipsnade, Shuttleworth, Airbus, Knebworth House, R.S.P.B. Rye Meads, visiting the local woods, and church, going to the cinema and going to the theatre to watch the pantomime.

General Information and Expectations
