At Broom Barns, we believe that Art and Design plays a vital role in inspiring creativity, self-expression and confidence in every child. Through a rich and engaging curriculum, pupils are encouraged to explore their imagination, develop their artistic skills and express their ideas, thoughts and feelings in a variety of ways.
Using the PlanBee Art and Design scheme of work, children are introduced to a wide range of artistic techniques, materials and processes, enabling them to develop as confident and independent artists. They explore drawing, painting, sculpture, printing, textiles, collage and digital art, while learning about the work of significant artists, designers and craftspeople from different cultures, periods and backgrounds.
Our curriculum provides opportunities for children to experiment, take creative risks and develop their own unique artistic style. Pupils learn how to observe carefully, record ideas in sketchbooks and evaluate their own work and the work of others. Through discussion and reflection, they develop an understanding of how art can communicate ideas, tell stories and reflect different experiences and cultures.
Art and Design lessons encourage curiosity, resilience and critical thinking. Children are taught that artistic development is a journey and that experimentation, practice and reflection are essential parts of the creative process. As they progress through the school, pupils build their technical skills and knowledge while developing an appreciation of the rich artistic heritage that exists both locally and globally.
By the time they leave Broom Barns, our children have developed confidence in their creative abilities, an appreciation of artistic expression and a strong understanding of how art enriches our lives. They leave with a portfolio of experiences and skills that foster creativity, imagination and cultural awareness, preparing them for future learning and lifelong enjoyment of the arts.
