At Broom Barns Primary School, we want every child to enjoy learning about history and develop a curiosity about the past. By exploring significant people, events and civilisations, children learn how the past has shaped the world we live in today and gain an appreciation of different cultures and societies.
Our History curriculum is carefully planned using the Developing Experts programme. Key knowledge, skills and vocabulary are revisited throughout each year, helping children build on what they already know and remember their learning over time. Through exciting enquiries, historical sources and discussions, pupils learn to ask questions, investigate evidence, think critically and share their ideas with confidence.
As children progress through the school, they develop a clear understanding of change over time and the impact of historical events on our lives today. History also helps them develop important values such as respect, empathy and an understanding of different viewpoints.
By the time they leave Broom Barns, our pupils have a strong knowledge of Britain’s past and the wider world, alongside the curiosity, confidence and critical thinking skills they need to become informed and responsible citizens.
